Jeep Renix ECU Information (1987-1990)
In 1987-1990 Jeep produced a 4.0L Renix-controlled fuel-injected engine through a short-lived joint venture by Renault and Bendix. These engines are very unique with limited diagnostics and odd parts. The ECU engine computers can be hard to find, so we've compiled a bit of knowledge about them over the years and also have a small inventory of tested units for sale.
- All 4.0L ECU's will work throughout the entire 1987-1990 year range with a few caveats:
- Automatic transmission ECU's will work in Standard transmission vehicles (although the upshift indicator light will not function).
- Standard transmission ECU's will NOT work in automatic vehicles.
- 1989-1990 model ECU's have slightly more power than earlier counterparts.
The ECU's are printed with 3 numbers:
- Jeep part number (either in format 895300xxxx or 5300xxxx).
- Bendix part number ("S" followed by 9 digits and a letter).
- Build date code (2-digit year and 2-digit week).
The 7th digit in the Bendix part number indicates manual ("1") vs. automatic ("2") transmission.
